  17. I am trying to install latex and all the associated programs.  I have the fonts 
  18. structure exaclty where in is suppose to be under /usr/local/lib.

  20. When I type: "make formats" where I am told I get the following error.

  26. ! I can't find file `lplain'.

  32. When I put in the path of the file:

  34. /usr/local/lib/tex/inputs/initex/latex/lplain.tex

  36. I can procede.  However, I eventually get to a point where the make can't find 
  37. the location of fonts.  I know it is a path variable somewhere but I don't know 
  38. where.  I have read all the README, HIER and the like files.

  40. Have spent all day trying get latex working, could someone point me in the right 
  41. directions.
